Terms of Service

These terms describe the baseline rules for using Lumen Journal. They are written for a personal journaling product that stores sensitive memories and offers optional AI-assisted reflection.

Using Lumen Journal

  • You are responsible for your account, credentials, journal content, and activity under your account.
  • You must provide accurate account information and keep your sign-in methods secure.
  • The service is not directed to children under 13. If local law requires a higher age for digital services, you must meet that age or have appropriate consent.

Your Content

  • You keep ownership of the memories, files, and other content you add to Lumen Journal.
  • You grant Lumen Journal the limited permission needed to host, store, process, display, export, back up, and operate the features you use.
  • Do not upload content you do not have the right to store, process, or share.

Our Service and License

  • Lumen Journal and its software, design, brand, and service content are protected by intellectual-property laws. These terms do not transfer ownership of them to you.
  • We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app and web service for their intended purpose while you comply with these terms.
  • Suggestions or feedback may be used to improve the service without an obligation to compensate you, but they do not give us ownership of your private journal content.

AI Features

  • External AI is disabled in the current production release. If Lumen Journal enables AI-assisted prompts, summaries, search, or conversations later, those optional features will support reflection and organization.
  • AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate for your situation. You are responsible for reviewing and deciding how to use it.
  • Lumen Journal is not a medical, mental health, legal, financial, or emergency service. If you need urgent help, contact local emergency services or a qualified professional.

Subscriptions and Payments

  • Lumen Plus is not currently available for public purchase. When it launches, paid features, plan limits, localized prices, renewal periods, and cancellation terms will be shown in the iPhone app before purchase.
  • At launch, Lumen Plus will be sold only through Apple's in-app purchase system using StoreKit. RevenueCat will validate Apple transaction and entitlement information, which Lumen will use to determine access for your signed-in account. Lumen does not offer a separate web checkout or collect full payment-card details.
  • The version 1.0 Lumen Plus benefit is an increase from the free plan's 15-memory limit to unlimited memories. It does not include a promise of external AI, voice transcription, or a specific attachment-storage allowance.
  • After purchase, paid subscriptions will renew automatically for the period and localized price shown by Apple unless cancelled in App Store subscription settings.
  • Refund eligibility and refund requests are handled by Apple under its applicable App Store policies. Lumen Journal cannot directly issue an App Store refund.
  • Deleting your Lumen account does not automatically cancel an Apple subscription. You remain responsible for cancelling it with Apple if you do not want it to renew.
  • Use of the iPhone app is also subject to Apple's applicable App Store terms and Licensed Application End User License Agreement. If these terms conflict with mandatory App Store terms, the mandatory App Store terms control for the iPhone app.

Third-Party Services

  • Authentication, hosting, storage, subscriptions, email, monitoring, analytics, and optional AI features may depend on third-party services. Their availability and separate terms or privacy practices can affect the features you use.
  • Links to third-party services are provided for convenience and do not make Lumen Journal responsible for their content or practices.

Acceptable Use

  • Do not misuse the service, probe or bypass security, overload infrastructure, reverse engineer protected parts of the product, or use the service to harm others.
  • Do not upload malware, illegal content, or content that violates another person's rights.
  • We may suspend or restrict accounts that create security, legal, operational, or abuse risks.

Availability and Changes

  • We aim to keep the service reliable, but availability can be affected by maintenance, provider outages, bugs, or events outside our control.
  • Features may change as the product improves. Material privacy changes should be communicated clearly before they apply.
  • We may update these terms. We will give reasonable notice of material changes when required and request renewed agreement when applicable law requires it.

Suspension and Termination

  • You may stop using the service and delete your Lumen account at any time. Account deletion and Apple subscription cancellation are separate actions.
  • We may suspend or terminate access when reasonably necessary to address fraud, abuse, security risk, legal requirements, non-payment, or material violations of these terms.
  • Terms that by their nature should continue after termination—including ownership, disclaimers, liability limitations, and obligations tied to prior use—will continue to apply.

Disclaimers and Liability

  • The service is provided as is and as available to the fullest extent allowed by law.
  • We are not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages to the fullest extent allowed by law.
  • Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot be limited under laws that apply to you.

Apple License Terms

The iPhone app is licensed, not sold, and is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement.
